Th e pet industry is looking forward to 35 percent growth over the next few years, with the pet population
predicted to grow at 10–15 percent per year. Data reveals the success of many start-ups and many companies
are looking to invest in this industry. Now that platform seems to be reliable, foreign brands are also
launching select products here.

Nestlé launches Purina Supercoat through its Purina Pet Care Pvt. Ltd.
T
he recent buzz about well-known Swiss FMCG
Nestlé’s launch of a premium dog food through its
fully-owned subsidiary Purina Pet Care Pvt. Ltd. (started
in the year 2001) has created a buzz among pet owners,
whose main options have hitherto been Pedigree and
Royal canine.
Th e company has launched the ‘Purina Supercoat’ range
of dog food, which off ers a wholesome combination
of high-quality natural ingredients, Nestlé said in a
statement, ‘With the launch of Supercoat in India we kick
start our mission to raise the standards for pet nutrition.’

Purina PetCare India MD Varindra Sewak added, ‘We
will bring our global portfolio to India to cater to these
consumers and become a signifi cant player in the rapidly
growing pet food category.’
Th e company said that with an estimated 19 million pets,
the domestic pet food industry has a huge potential to
grow and is expected to double in size in the next fi ve
years. ‘With the launch into the Indian market, Nestlé
Purina PetCare will be investing for the long term and
aims to have a robust portfolio of its global brands to
meet the needs of pets.’
