Lily Lauzon Prompt: Interests/Talents 2nd Period Word Count: 658 (Common App requires 250-650) Creative Writing H September 14th, 2016 Late Night Games - A College Essay It’s late at night, the screen so bright it’s lighting up the dark room around me to a dim glow. As I sit there, I listen to the music I play on Listen On Repeat, and simultaneously, the noises of the house so late at night. I’m waiting for my friend to get back on Skype, and I’m playing ROBLOX (a game) at full graphics. The computer is slightly laggy, and the random feedback noise from Skype rings in my ears. There’s still silence as I’m going through this round though. Each round consists of four minutes to survive, and not die, or to do these things like shoot at targets or sword fight with other players. Jumping around the game’s map was a challenge because of the enormous amount of objects falling from the sky. I hear my friend come back. Sam joins the round and joins into the round right in the middle of the map, right as it’s being exploded. I am in a corner now, trying to avoid the falling objects. Limbs and broken objects are everywhere: piano keys, violin strings, dog parts and cakes and pies; they all explode on impact and as I look up to see the counter for the time left, I cheer. I finally survived a round! Sam and I rejoice over Skype and talk about what happened and how funny it was at a given point during the round. It’s the end of the round, and I’m the only one standing in this virtual world. But the time is already 10:45 PM. And on a school night too. I still want to play more, so that’s what I end up doing. I fight with my conscience on what I knew was right and what I shouldn’t do, and I let the shouldn’t- do side win. Sam and I play another round. Fortunately for Sam, she was on winter break; unlike me. Occasionally during rounds, we would get up to get food and the restroom. Other than that, we were up all night. I had dirty dishes next
