“Kaiden” she said again, pulling away from my shoulder, “I-I’ll be right back” Jaylyn said as she
disappeared into the bathroom.
I didn’t move. I just waited there, staring at the wall across from me, then up to the ceiling, and
noticing all the little details. All the little holes in the ceiling. I didn’t like looking at the ceiling, it made
me feel a bit sick. So I went back to looking at the wall. Still plain and still boring. Tick… tick… tick…
tick… tick… the clock’s sound being the only sound I could hear in the room.
Finally silence broke. Jaylyn came out of the bathroom. I turned to look at her as she came out.
She still looked so beautiful. She walked back to her seat and there was a short silence between us. Her
emotions changed though. She seemed to look at me in a way only I thought I could have looked at her.
The way you might look at someone who is beautiful, not from the looks, but the inside, the heart,
realization and relief, quietly, and in love.
“Jaylyn, why have you been coming to me all this time?” I asked suddenly breaking the silence. I
didn’t want to break the silence but I figured I could ask questions still. After all, most of Jaylyn’s tears
had gone away. I didn’t want to sit there awkwardly either. Besides, today seemed to be a lot more quieter
than usual.
“You don’t know why?” Jaylyn asked, “Well, maybe someday you’ll know. I can’t tell you now.”
she finished.
I looked puzzled at her. Why was she keeping this from me? Was the question so bad? Or did she
just not want to answer the question?
“Alright” I answered.
“Oh, the time, I should get going.” she said, “I’ll be here tomorrow morning, Kaiden.” She
paused. She looked at me with a little smile and said “Good night!” and she left.
“Good night” I said quietly to myself, after she left.
I now had the room to myself, just sitting there at the table by myself, looking at the chair Jaylyn
had sat at only moments ago.
“Tomorrow.”
