At the end of the game the score was 36 to 30, it was a great game but never once did the other team take the lead or come closer than five points to us. We shook hands and the other teams coach gave me praise as well as the girls on the team. After that I went to find my dad but someone was calling my name so I stopped and looked around. The varsity coach came over to me and asked me if I knew how many points I had scored during the game. I had apologized and told him I couldn’t keep score I was too busy playing and it did not really matter. He started to laugh telling me he knew how many I scored and he was just wondering if I knew. I didn’t understand why it mattered. He asked me if we could talk in his office and I was really scared. Did I not score enough points? Was I doing something wrong? Am I getting kicked off the team? I followed him to his office and sat down.
He continued to tell me how good I did and how he wanted me to play on varsity and I could not believe it I was so happy I started crying and then he had told me my stats for the night. I had 27 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assist. He let me go and I ran to find my step dad when I saw him I jumped into his arms and was crying and laughing and just so happy. I told him my mom and real dad what my coach had said and they were all happy for me. The rest of the night was a breeze I watched my sister’s game then went home took a shower and went to sleep with a smile on my face. I was the happiest person alive.
My basketball career only got better from there I played on all three teams from then on out. I only played freshmen when we did not have Junior Varsity and Varsity games. I had so much fun and I really love basketball. This game was the starting point for me and it sparked an amazing career.
