You are a wheelchair user, can you tell us about the circumstances around that ?
My accident happened in November of 2014 in Melbourne, Vic, Australia. I fell three stories through the middle of a stairwell and broke
my back and suffered a spinal cord injury, which has now left me paraplegic.
In regards to your disability, what would you say is the most frustating?
How do you cope with those
frustrations & turn them into a positive ?
I think the most frustrating thing is when you’re wheeling along with someone who is walking and they are walking way too slow.
No,kidding. I think it’s definitely not having complete control over your body anymore. Some days it feels like your body is
working against you, and that can be incredibly frustrating when you’re trying to reach for your
dreams and work towards your goals. To cope with this,
I basically just remind myself of how lucky I am and how grateful I should be that I’m even alive to tell my story and spread my
message of hope and positivity. Sometimes it can become very easy to feel sorry for yourself, but I think it’s so important to remind
yourself of what you CAN DO and what you HAVE, rather than focusing so much on what you can’t do or what you don’t have. When I
consider that most people would have died from having a similar accident to mine, it makes me feel very grateful for my life and my future.
