Sayuri was just a little girl when she and her older sister were taken from their home to become geishas in Gion. Her mother was very ill and within days of dying and her father was very old and also close to dying. Her father’s boss took them away to Gion to give then somewhat of a better life. She was known for her beautiful eyes which were such a beautiful light turquoise like color. Everyone else’s eyes were dark brown. Back to the story, she was a maid to this stuck up geisha named Hatosumo until Sayuri met the Chairman. The Chairman got her geisha days started by telling Mehmesha, who is one of the most successful geishas, about Sayuri. Mehmesha took it upon herself to teach Sayuri to become a geisha. Sayuri later became one of the best known geisha.
