Joyce rolled over and pulled the covers close to her face. She could hear her children downstairs, but she just couldn’ t seem to get out of bed. She glanced at the clock— 10:17. No surprise. Her two children had somehow managed to get their own breakfast and were finding ways to occupy their time. They were used to this. Depression had stolen their mom from them in so many ways. alone. She had become reclusive, hiding in her home or in her bed, not wanting the world to see what she had become. In her own mind, she saw herself as worthless.
That was the day a text message came through that would end up changing the course of her life:
They stopped asking her to come outside and play. They were getting used to living with a mom who was either in bed, on the sofa, or softly crying to herself in her bedroom. Household duties had become too much for Joyce. She was spiraling into depression, which she had battle most of her life, and she was too exhausted to fight anymore.
