What ?
The Rana Plaza incident was when many garment workers went to work in very bad conditions, due to the conditions of the building, the building collapsed and many garment workers died as a result.
What does the picture below show?
The picture shows the relatives of the people who died due to the Rana Plaza incident in Bangladesh. The picture gives us an idea of how many people lost their lost their loved ones due to the industry.
Why ?
The reason why Rana Plaza happened was because the building had contained clothing factories, shops and banks. The banks and shops were on the lower ground floor while the clothing factores were on the upper floors. There were cracks fround on the lower floors so the building owners were advised to send everyone on a strike till it got fixed, however this would have affected, so the building owners called the garment workers back the next day and during rush hour that morning the building collapesed.
Who ?
The collapse was mainly on the garment workers that were called back to work due to the loss of money. However there haad been a strike for all the other workers.
The garment workers were on the upper floors, so they thought they wont be affected or it wouldn’t cause any problems, but that was not the case.
When ?
Rana Plaza collapse was a structural faiure that took place on Wednesday 24th April 2013.
Where ?
This took place in Upazila of Dhaka, Bangladesh, many retailers go to places like Bangladesh knowing that production is cheaper, however the workers shouldn’t be treated like cheap labour.
