Even though the ETI Base Code is there for people to work by all of these things happen on a regular basis especially in the production industry, many people are being used to work excessive hours but not paying enough to live in good conditions. Children are used to work in factories from a very young age, just they can fend for their families. Many of these codes are done on a day to day basis in factories. A very good example is people moving from their counties and migrating into another country to get away from the law enforcement, however they go into the country and find factory jobs just so they can earn money. Most of the time many workers don’t know what good pay is and what bad pay is just because they need at least something to look after themselves and their family. One of the examples that covered all the papers was the Rana Plaza where multiple people died from bad conditions and working environments. Many employees all over the world, especially Bangladesh are working to earn nothing or less then the living wages, whcih many people do.
Primark’s Code of Conduct Is very similar to the ETI base code it tell you how and why certain situations should be dealt with. Primark even added more to their list showing that even though they are a big franchise they still know how to keep their employees protected from every angle. Employment is freely chosen, Freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining is respected, Working conditions are safe and hygienic, Environmental requirements, Child labour shall not be used, Living wages are paid, Working hours are not excessive, Regular employment is provided, No harsh or inhumane treatment is allowed and Legal requirements. These are the 10 codes of conducts from Primark’s code of conduct, they pretty much cover all the points and spoke on more seeing as they added thing that will cover the employee legally. Many of the retailers find it easier to follow their code of conduct.
