Sewing Know How Backstitch This stitch creates a strong seam. First, bring the thread up from the back of the fabric on the line that you want to create. Make a small backward stitch through the fabric. Second, bring the needle through the fabric a little in front of the first stitch but still on the line. Pull the thread through the fabric. Over stitch: The over stitch uses a single layer of thread and can be used to finish the raw edges of a seam.Use a single thread knotted at the end. Begin stitching from the back of the fabric, bringing the needle through to the front, and then over the fabric to stitch through the back to the front again. The stitching should appear even and should lay flat.
