The Christmas tree
Many towns have their own Christmas tree, set up in their high
streets or squares. One of the most famous ones stands in Trafalgar S
London.
Every December a magnificent fir tree is given to London from
Norway, as a present to show their gratitude for the help given to
them, in the Second World War, from Britain.
Since the 1920’s there has been a large Christmas tree on the White
House lawn in Washington USA. The President switches the lights on
himself.
In New Zealand the Christmas tree is alive and growing, its Maori
name is Pohutakawa, but early settlers called it the Christmas tree
because of its beautiful red flowers that bloom in December.
A special thank you to Robert & Mihaela Vicol,
