Apparently beer was a very popular drink in the middle ages. However it’s not because it just tastes great, but clean water wasn’t exactly readily available. The alcohol in the beer killed most of the dangerous bacteria in the water, resulting in a much safer drink. With the big water shortage prediction hanging in the air we might be returning to this solution. The middle ages also acted as a poster child for underage drinking. Yes my friends, it formed part of a natural diet in families because beer has nutrients which are directly linked with staying alive. How’s that for cool parents? Now the Incas had a somewhat different way of brewing their beer; they preferred a more natural approach by chewing the corn into a kind of pulp. After they were satisfied and probably tired of chewing, they would spit the pulp into large vats which were left to ferment for a couple of weeks. I’m not one to judge, but I’m guessing there weren’t rows of people dying to test the brew.
