Millions will gather together to pray publicly for the nation and its leaders May 7, at over 35,000 or more locations in America for the National Day of Prayer( NDP). And your store can participate too!
While history proves America was founded on prayer, the modern observance was established in 1952 when the U. S. Congress passed a resolution signed by President Harry S. Truman, calling on Americans to turn to God in prayer. In 1988 under President Ronald Reagan, legislation set the annual observance for the first Thursday in May.
Each year the NDP Task Force, led by president Kathy Branzell, provides a theme that unites participants. This year’ s theme is“ Glorify God Among the Nations, Seeking Him in All Generations,” inspired by 1 Chronicles 16:24( NIV):“ Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.”
At local gatherings, leaders and others will focus prayers on several cultural influence areas: church, family, education, business / workplace, military, government and lastly, arts, entertainment and media industries.
Instead of feeling as though you’ re missing out on this important national observance, here are six ways you can support the National Day of Prayer and draw folks from your community into your store. continued on page 44 >>
