Eid Fashion & Trends – 2018 By Shahzaadee Joosub As a child, Eid was always a special occasion and always made me think, new clothes, fresh fashion and an opportunity to play dress up. I clearly remember going shopping with my parents & siblings on the weekends leading up to Eid. My mum always made sure we kept up with the latest trends and fashions… as we got older and learnt and understood the spirituality of Eid we switched up our Eid clothes to fashionable Abayas Coco Chanel once said: “Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself.” I can tell you all about new trends in make-up and fashion, but its how you choose to make it your own that counts. Modest Fashion is evolving from what it used to be, and it’s no more just a black abaya and scarf. Actually modest fashion is evolving so much that it’s recognised worldwide and it’s not any more just “Modest Fashion” it’s actually just “Fashion”. I love how the trends have evolved from plain black abayas to the most stylish colours and flattering cuts. The Hijab is truly a Muslim woman’s crown. Colours, textures and styles of hijabs are never ending. A trend carried over from 2017 is the turban trend, and I don’t see anyone complaining, they look effortlessly chic and its gives you the chance to accessorize. Tying your hijab in a fashionable way has never been easier as there are quite a few hijab stylists around who are willing to render their services or you could simply watch a tutorial on YouTube (that’s what I do) 2018 is all about bold colours (such as mustard, omg I am so obsessed) and textures. From floral to tartan & plaid, 3d appliques, velvet, suede, fur and feathers. Synced waists, frills, big sleeves & of course throw overs. I’ve always been a big fan of throw abayas as it can be paired up or down with the trendiest of outfits underneath, it has such a personal sense of style to it. Now let’s talk make-up, 2018 is all about glowing skin, fluffy eyebrows, Cleopatra eyeliner & metallic tones. During the day I opt for a natural look, but I won’t step out without mascara. Never underestimate the power of eyelashes! For me, lashes complete & compliment any look, even bare faced. My ultimate evening look features either a dramatic eye or a bold lip. If you plan on cleaning out your make up drawer hold onto those bullet lippies. One of 2018s biggest comebacks is the traditional lipstick. Even though you can still rock your favourite Huda liquid lip, make way for bold crème lipsticks (favourite shade I’m crushing on currently “Sophia” by BNE Cosmetics) Ever heard the saying: “that the eyes are the window to the soul.”? Well get ready for some flashy windows! Ultra-violet is said to be the colour for 2018. I love the confidence make up gives me and I know you will too. Fashion can be seen and bought anywhere by anyone it’s the style you add to it that will make you stand out in the crowd. Remember it’s not what you wear it’s how you wear it. 13
