Please share something of your background related to your interest in fitness.
I was always interested in fitness and keeping myself healthy. I started working out I was 12 years old. I always tried to eat clean and exercise often but the idea of competing was never an option to me. I can honestly say I had low self-esteem. Working out for years without getting the desired results made me think “I was not made” for that. But the truth is, if you want it badly enough, you will fight for it and at some point you will find a way to get it. I got more involved in fitness a few years back when I started doing boot camp. Seeing my coach’s great physique motivated me and gave me the courage to keep pushing myself and not giving up on my dream. I started seeing little changes in my body but still something was missing. Later on, I decided to take it to a different level and get into competition. The correct guidance from my coaches Eric and Kelly Diffenderfer of Team Freak Physique, and the hard work I put into it got me where I am right now.
Share with us a bit about your contest history and most memorable show experience.
I started competing a few months ago. I always admired the hard work competitors put into their contest prep and the results they get but I
never thought I would get involved in competition. Deciding to give it a try was not only a great decision, but also a self-confidence booster, which I really needed. Receiving first place on my very first show, 2014 Beach Bodies Classic, was just unreal. There are no words to describe the feeling of that first accomplishment. I was hooked the moment when I stepped on a stage for the first time. Therefore, the following week, I decided to do a second show, the 2014 Dexter Jackson Classic, where once again I got first place in Open Figure Division Class A and First place in the Masters Figure Division over 30. Two weeks later I did a third show, the 2014 Florida State Championship, winning the Open Figure Overall, and the Masters Figure Overall. Two overalls in one evening was just a dream. I am y happy and grateful that I decided to start this journey, it is so gratifying when your hard work pays off.
Competing gave me so much confidence and made me realize everything is possible when you work hard and give your 100%. Set small goals and work on them, soon you when you look back you will realize how far you have gone. I know this is only the beginning, but I am tremendously happy with what I have achieved in only a few months and I am looking forward to many more to come (cont. pg.20).
