MODHIS Modern History ½ credit semester Elective This course deals with modern America from the Progressive Era to the present. Research and a variety of sources are utilized to gain an expanded understanding of basic themes in our nation’s growth. Prerequisites: Two Credits of HS Social Science and Data Percentiles MIL Military History ½ credit Elective Military History: Examine the role of the military and conflict on both the ancient and modern world. Students will research and analyze the strategic, technological, cultural, and political influence of warfare on human history and the development of civilizations from Ancient Greece to the war in Afghanistan. Additionally, this course will debate the many reasons why Military History is the most common theme of modern popular history. Prerequisites: Two Credits of HS Social Science and Data Percentiles FINLIT Financial Literacy ½ credit semester Elective This course will provide students with the skills and concepts needed to gain personal and financial responsibility related to financial planning, savings, investments, and charitable giving in the global community by exploring the relationship between income and careers, money management, credit and debt management, risk management and investing, protecting assets and insurance, taxes, and becoming a critical consumer. Prerequisites: Two Credits of HS Social Science and Data Percentiles SOCPRO Social Problems ½ credit semester Elective Course investigates social conditions that contribute to contemporary U.S. and global social problems. Content includes globalization poverty discrimination based on race, ethnicity, gender, age or sexual orientation crime and criminal justice system, substance abuse environmental problems and war and terrorism.
