Accounting (Cum Laude Recognition) Students will learn the practical application of double-entry accounting, a system of recording financial transactions of a business, known as the “language of business.” Emphasis will be placed on students understanding the “why” behind accounting transactions and how a business is affected, in addition to interpreting and analyzing financial statements. Accountants are in high demand and many rewarding career opportunities are possible. Thinking about business as your major in college? This class is a must! Business Communication (New Course) This course will be focusing on mastering the essential aspects of business communication. Students will learn communication strategies through a unique perspective by utilizing today’s social trends and media technologies to complete a variety of continuous projects for both personal and professional use. In addition, students will produce community-wide productions, publications, and supplements. This course will require students to work well independently and in groups. Business & Consumer Law This course covers an overview of the main legal principles used in the business world, which aims to give the student a basic understanding of both a person’s legal rights and legal responsibilities. It will acquaint students with basic legal principles common to business and personal issues. Ethics, the origin of law, our court system structure, contracting, buying and selling, employment, organizing a business, real estate, and other aspects will be explored. Students will leave the course with an understanding of legal issues impacting their lives in today’s business world. Desktop Publishing I This course teaches visual career and communication skills by exploring the foundations of graphic design and print production. Students will learn the essentials of applications for both print and digital publishing by developing professional business documents for today’s media-driven world. In addition, students will learn visual design techniques and strategies in business and marketing relative to advertising and promotions. This course will require students to work well independently and in groups. The core applications are Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. Desktop Publishing II This course teaches visual career and communication skills by exploring the foundations of graphic design and print production.
