COURSE: Art & Design Expressive and Design Practical Activities The S3 course is designed to build upon the broad general education delivered in S1 and S2 and provide a bridge to National 4 and 5 courses in S4. A range of pupil centred lessons will be offered to facilitate skills development and to engage pupils in challenging new experiences. In the first half of the year the emphasis will be on practical skills covering a breadth of media and techniques. Lessons are designed to be challenging, fun, offer an element of personal expression and develop skills such as building confidence and creativity.
In the second half of the year pupils will select from a bank of design briefs covering a range of outcomes and contexts relevant to the life experience of our pupils and global society. Pupils will be given the opportunity to experience the design process through a range of design projects. They will develop their ability to create and evaluate their eye-catching and innovative designs.
Expressive and Design Critical Activities
Art and Design studies will improve students’ abilities to observe, reflect, describe and respond to works of art and design from contemporary and historical sources, in order to enhance their own understanding of the wider context of Art and Design. A gallery visit provides the opportunity to see and discuss works of art and design directly.
