Duffield.

places to eat and drink. Daniel Defoe wrote
in the 18th century “we came to Quarn or
Quarden. A little ragged, but noted village,
where there is a famous chalybeat spring,
to which an abundance of people go in the
season to drink the water”. It’s not ragged
anymore, that’s for sure, but is a very pretty
village.
Duffield is on the A6, 5 miles further north
and historically was mentioned in the
Doomsday Book of 1086. The railway runs
through the village, and Duffield Station
was once known as ‘Top Hat’ station as
several of the railway hierarchy lived in the
