Managerial Tools and Tips in an Uncertain Climate and Market

The video attached “Managerial Tools and Tips in an Uncertain Climate and Market” has a lot of great information for cattle producers. Unfortunately, there is also outdated information that needs waded through to get to the pertinent meterial that I wanted to share. So, for your convenience, I have done that!

Mary Knapp, K-State Climatologist shares some really great facts about the K-State Cattle Comfort index that is on the K-State Mesonet page (see previous article for more information as well) along with a site called “Grass-Cast” that can track the amount of available forage you have in your pastures depending on environmental conditions. The time in the video that she talks about this subject is from 9:30 to 13:00.

From 15:19 to 31:12, A.J. Tarpoff contributed really important knowledge about heat stress in cattle in this webinar. He discusses heat stress causes, how to recognize them and help mitigate issues before they become major.

Although the entire webinar is both informative and helpful, I hope that you will at least seek out these 2 portions for some timely information about dealing with the extremes that Kansas throws at us and how to help your cattle weather them as effectively as possible.
