Monte Frio, Achuapa

Raleigh volunteers joined the remote Nicaraguan
community of Monte Frio to take part in a water and
sanitation project that brought clean running water to the
community. The project was a multi-stakeholder project
involving the local community, Raleigh International, and
the Juan Francisco Paz Silva Co-operative which works to
improve living conditions for local people in the region.
The group conducted baseline surveys to better
understand the current living conditions and needs of the
communities. This allows partners like the Co-operative
to respond to those needs and act to bring about positive
change. In addition to many local houses, the medical
centre, church and school in Monte Frio weren’t connected
to a clean supply of running water.

El grupo llevó a cabo encuestas para entender las
condiciones y necesidades de las comunidades. Esto
ayuda a los socios como la cooperativa responder a estas
necesidades y a actuar para traer un cambio positivo.
Además de muchas casas de la comunidad, el centro
medico, la iglesia y la escuela en Monte Frio no tenían
acceso a una fuente de agua limpia.

Volunteers dug trenches for the water pipes, built a water
tank and installed a gravity fed water system in order to
supply the village with a water source that will be used
by a large proportion of Monte Frio. Their hard work will
improve the health and sanitation of the whole community.

nicaragüense de Monte Frio para ser parte del proyecto
de manejo de agua que trajo agua limpia a la comunidad.
