Ethnic Hair Care – 16 March
Presenters included Robyn Brown, who discussed trends in virgin hair, as well as a complex overview of relaxers provided by Wanda Posthumus, Robyn focused on the needs and characteristics of Type 4 hair and shared insight into a variety of interesting styling methods and the products consumers use. The difference between lye and non-lye relaxers was covered by Wanda, who revealed that highly active lye relaxers are freely available to the general public throughout South Africa. However, in Brazil, lye relaxers are only available in salons and are therefore much more regulated.
Formulating relaxers with conditioning actives, issues linked to how relaxers are sold on shelf and a number of key manufacturing tips were also revealed during this seminar
Claim Support – 1 June
Presenters included Leon Grobler and Lee-Ann Raaff. Leon outlined the reasons for substantiation, the specific requirements for substantiation and what the ASA requires when reviewing a dispute.
Actives Morning – 27 July
Presenters included David Stockenstrom and Janine Wilson. David presented an overview of the actives trends over the past 50 year and the revolution of these ingredients, His presentation also highlighted potential active trends.
Janine simplified the matrix of types, alternatives and products to determine which active to use in your formulation.
Emulsion Technology – 5 October
Presenters included Phillip Cilliers and John Knowlton. Phillip discussed Global Trends which are based on actual consumer needs incorporating the complete emotional experience. He also reviewed current global skin care trends.
John investigated the factors that contribute to a stable emulsion product, including a review of the HLB theory and the stability testing of the finished products.
Lee-Ann detailed the complex process followed to support a cosmetic claim. This included claim evaluation and substantiation claims.
