year 7

My name is Sofia Vella.

I am in Year 7. I have been a

member of Cardiff Athletic

Club since I was 9 years old.

I started out as a sprinter and

have won for 4 consecutive years at Leckwith in the sprint. In Year 6 I also won the Long Jump and we won the Relay too.

In Year 5 I decided to run Cross Country for Cardiff Athletic Club and enjoyed it so much I ran it for the whole season. I came overall 2nd in the Gwent League (England and Wales) and I also did Cross Country for my primary school (St .Peters) in Years 5 & 6 and won both!

I became the League and Welsh Champion in Year 7 for Corpus Christi and was selected to represent Wales in the Mini Marathon in London March of this year. This was an amazing experience and I got to meet Mo Farah and Tom Daley when I started our race! I have also achieved my 'Cross Country Colours' which means I have run for my County.

My track and field achievements this season are:-

Welsh Champion in 800m

Welsh Campion in 1200m

Welsh Champion in 1500m

Welsh Champion in Combined Events Indoor and Outdoor (I won the outdoor last weekend).

2nd in Wales in High Jump.

My ambition for 2015 is to be selected for the Welsh Squad SIAB Cross County Squad in March and also to improve my time in the 800m to be selected to compete in the British Championships in March also.

I have just been informed that I have won the Victrix Ludorum Award for getting the most points in Sports Day for winning the 800m, 200m and high jump. I also broke the school records at 800m on Sports Day and the 1500m at Leckwith.

I train with a top GB coach who selected me as the youngest member of his squad when I was in Year 6 because I beat one of his athletes in a Welsh Champs Competition!

I have also done a race called the Nos Galan. I first completed it when I was in Year 6 and surprisingly won against Year 7s and 8s. I also then ran it in Year 7 and came 2nd against year 7, 8 and 9.

I know I am very blessed and I could not do any of this without my mum driving me all over the

country most

weekends.
