Twitter is known to be a phenomenon . A social platform , worldwide , which gives individuals all the freedom of expression by providing a space for 140 characters at a time . According to the Business Insider , Twitter was an idea formulated by Ex-Googler , Evan Williams , and his friend , Biz Stone who is also an Ex- Googler . They were both apart of a company called Odeo a platform which provided podcasting for users over the world . Apple then came and launched iTunes , which made Odeo somewhat extinct and irrelevant to users . Mr . Williams then invited Jack Dorsey to join him in establishing Twitter , what we all now know as Twitter . Twitter was founded on March 21 , 2016 , in San Fransico , California , United States . Like any other company , Twitter Inc has its own organizational culture and structure which staff members are comfortable with as it helps them stay grounded and motivated which in return drives productivity over the years .
A part of Twitter ' s culture consists of traditions . Within Twitter , the company constantly tries to find ways to increase productivity and also ways to make their staff members comfortable in the working environment . As a growing company , management constantly tries to get employees engaged by hosting management sessions which are often led by the CEO , Dick Costolo , frequent employee satisfaction and idea generating surveys assisting in the acquiring of core skills regardless of their positions in the company and also the encouraging of continuous feedback from all employees at all levels ( Dugan 2012 ). Twitter ' s employees are jazzed about the company they work for so much that their votes got the company to the top of the Glassdoor ' s list of having the best company culture and values . Another way in which they have tried to keep the workplace happy was by implementing an engineering exchange program where engineers from Twitter and Etsy could gain knowledge and experience knowledge by visiting the other company for at least one week ( Dugan 2012 ).
Another program which is used to push employees and to keep them motivated is by placing motivational phrases around the office and on the company laptop . It was stated that this would help to keep the moral standards high . Employees at the twitter Inc are elated about their jobs and working so much that their votes got twitter a position as one of the top 25 companies of culture and value ( Kerr 2014 ). Employees stated that they look forward to meetings on the roof . Fly Day happy hours every Friday at 5 pm , monthly off sites visits to wine tasting and bowling . Family Halloween party which includes a competitive costume contest and a Global Tea Time which is held every other Thursday for catching up on company news . In addition to these values , the Code of Business Conduct and Ethics approved by Board of Directors of Twitter Inc on October 19 , 2013 , states that the major core values of the company include integrity , honesty , and trust .
The directors stated that these core values help staff to understand what it means to be a part of the company and they all help in retaining the cultural identity . One way of ensuring that these core values are put into practice is by releasing the Code of Business Conduct .
Like any other company , conflicts may arise and it is important to have systems in place in the event that one arises . One way in which Twitter deals with such problem is also through the publication of the Code of Business Conduct . Within the Code of Business Conduct , staff members are directed to ask themselves a few questions . These questions are : would this situation create an incentive for me , my friends or my family at the expense of Twitter ? Could this activity harm my reputation for honesty and integrity , hinder my ability to do my job at Twitter or potentially harm twitter ? Would this situation embarrass me or Twitter in the front of a newspaper or in a blog ? Employees are urged to speak to management should the situation of a conflict arise . On a much lighter note , for directors to drive productivity within the workplace , there are numerous amounts of benefits and rewards given to staff members . The company offers staff with a fitness program , generous time off along with weekly hours and on site cafes serving healthy chef-made meals . This pushes worker to do their best at the job they ' re given and in return boosts productivity .
