Instead of trying out the latest diet to get the scale down to a totally arbitrary number, I started to learn about nutrition so I could give my body what it needed: natural food, and nutrients.
Instead of putting the latest body firming cream on my body to conform to beauty standards, I started to investigate the content of cosmetic products to make sure they were safe for my body in the first place. And guess what? Most of them weren’t.
At first this made me angry. I couldn’t understand why companies would create products that were not 100% healthy, and good for us. Just like crappy food, or unhealthy diets by the way. Then that perspective shifted. Of course, it’s not right for companies to pursue profit over our well-being. It shouldn’t be that way.
But that doesn’t mean I have to go along with it.
We all have a choice. Always. Just like I can choose to be good to myself, set healthy boundaries, to put myself first, I can choose to educate myself, and to make wise choices about my health. That’s precisely what wellness is: the active pursuit of health.
Because once we value ourselves enough to take the best care possible of ourselves we start treating ourselves like we would our best friend, wanting only the best for us. And that’s to me is self-love.
