The afternoon’s sections got under way after the lunch break, and in both groups there were plenty of people in with a chance to win. Paul Abery, Trevor Castle, Simon Wheeler and Chris Cuming to name a few were all In with a chance to win at the start of the afternoon. Tony Higgins, who had started the day so well had one of those “why did I stop for lunch” days with a string of scores in the afternoon dropping him down the order. In the battle for the championship, Ken appeared more focused in the afternoon seemingly sensing that one wrong approach on a section could put an end to his title bid. After an average morning Gavin had resided in the fact that he had scored too many points to challenge Ken, David and Ross in the top four battle. As the afternoon sections unfolded, the places were swapping back and forth, section by section as different people caught a cane or made a mistake and picked up points. Coming into the last section, in both groups it was these sections that decided who would take the title and who finished where on the day. The two stumbling blocks - a tricky cross axle for the group on the hill, and down beside the river a hidden log in a muddy pond. As each vehicle set off the places were changing, Ken got caught on the cross axle putting him on four points for the day. Kevin Lee had been on 3, got caught on the same cross axle dropping him behind Ken. In the other group, Chris Cuming, who was on two and Simon Wheeler on one both got caught out with the log in the pond. Chris having the log catch the rear wheel and drag him on to the bank and Simon going too wide and ended up with a granite rock in the way resulting in both gaining a five and Ken picking up more places. Kim who had been on clears all day even commenting on how wide the gates had been, ended up driving over a three on the last section. “A big thank you to all who put on today's RTV had great day. Cheers” – Dionne Johnson In the end, Pete Alexander went on to have a superb day and Finished on all Clears, Simon Wheeler took the class ten win and Luke Rickard took the class four win. Trevor Castle, John Badge and Pauline Philp took the other class trophies. Ken finished the day Joint seventh which was enough for him to win the championship.
