Cornwall & Devon Land Rover Club. The Club Mag spring 2014 | Page 3

The View From the Chair Well it seems such a long time since I have sat down and written my Chairwords for the Newsletter, it fact it was April last year. As you are reading this and you have the Newsletter in your hand you will be aware that we now have a new Editor; Welcome Aaron Lillicrap. Most of you will know Aaron well enough as he works at Brookwells Plympton depot and can usually be found at RTV events. His family have a long association with the club and the Land Rover community in general and Aaron himself is also an active member of the South Hams Motor Club where he regularly rallies (or should that be “rolls”) his mini. Being a “little” bit younger then the last Editor he is full of exuberance and new ideas so I am looking forward to seeing what he produces. Speaking of the last Newsletter Editor our illustrious Mr Ken Brain it gives me great pleasure to announce that Ken has agreed to take over the position of Honorary President. Terry Shepherd our previous club President for many years has now stepped aside to become a Vice President, and Ken is settling himself into a well warmed throne, or whatever it is that Presidents sit upon. As I’m not exactly sure what is expected of a President and as we don’t have them in the UK I thought I would look to our friends over the Atlantic for some pointers, the gist of it was; Smoke cigars, drink whiskey and have secretaries called Monica who have a penchant for hiding under desks whilst wearing blue dresses, if we have any members called Monica please apply directly to Ken for the full job description. In other news we have a new website, our old one is now long gone being replaced with an all new refreshed site. For whatever reason the old club website never really hit it off with club members and since Julia has taken over running the site it has become clear that it was not that user friendly both for normal club members and especially for the administrator. Julia has worked many hours with a new company of web designers and come up with a great new website that we can all be proud of. I’d like you al to join with me in thanking Julia for all her hard work. Just remember as I have said before the website and the Newsletter both need your input to remain up to date and interesting so please if you have anything that you think would interest other members please submit it to either Julia or Aaron respectively. By the time you are reading this we will have held our Annual General Meeting and there are a few changes to the committee this year, but more about them in the next issue. I also hope that you have taken advantage of our “First event for free” offer this year, the committee thought they would like to give something back to the competitors and have offered the chance to drive the first event of each discipline free of charge, as a knock on effect we hope that you will enjoy yourselves so much that you carry on and complete the whole season.
