Getting to know the members…. Name: Gavin Earnshaw Live: Gunnislake Job: BORDA Specialist Trainer at Trax & Trails near Tavistock (I teach 4x4 off-road driving to lots of different people; from those who drive offroad for work to those who have never even been in a 4x4). I also have taught post-degree level electronics, worked in IT, done research work into Computer Vision, I do some work for the OCR exam board and was one of only 36 people in the entire Western World to be interviewed for a job at Sony Research Labs in Japan. What got you in joining Cornwall & Devon LRC?I think it is one of the best things I ever did, joining C&D LRC, from my first ever event where I turned up and was marshalling at a Comp. within 20 minutes (supervised of course!) to setting up the JTVs for the kids. I spent about 8 years on the committee as Newsletter Editor, Vice Chair and Entry Level Events Officer and still occasionally go. I also enjoy marshalling at all the various events when I can. Through the Club I have met some amazing people, it has become the basis for my main job, my social life and hobby. Sad I know... What event do you look forward to most on the calendar?: All RTV's, I think I have only missed one RTV in 20 years (though I have had to go home early on a few). What has been your best result?: Getting 3rd overall in the 1999 RTV season. Although a close second would be my first RTV win which was a shock in my new to me 90 and it didn't even have a V8 haha. What has been your scariest moment?: Probably this coming year when my daughter starts Tyro... This year it was wondering how Peter Alexander was going to react when I borked the CV on his 90 at Binner Down a couple of weeks ago. [He was great about it and so were Rod Twist for loaning us a trailer and Ken Brain for towing it home.] Which other members do you enjoy competing against?: I enjoy competing against most of the members and since about 2000 I have come just to enjoy the day and doing well is a bonus. Although a bad day is still frustrating. And finally what’s your favourite Pudding?: my favourite pudding has to be Banoffee Pie although it may be obvious that I like most of them! Thanks Gavin, We’ll have another member next month.
