3-2-1-GO first driver ( Mark Clinnick ) off the line all looking good until half way
round first lap the rear props lets go , how unlucky can you get !! The shout from
Andi don’t worry you can drive mine (more of this later). With the first section under our belts and no major hiccups and only silly driver errors (I drove over the 12
gate – doh) we all started to settle down. The next couple of sections seemed to
pass with little drama and our new friend
from Somerset and wilts – Chris setting
the pace and showing us how his new car
can quite literally fly... (Sure there will be
some pictures on the web site) I managed
to hit another cane and gain another time
penalty – I was sure I had only clipped it ,
going through the gate sideways and the
cane hitting the middle of the door as I
slid over it is only clipping it in my book .. I
was beginning to remember just how
much fun these events were as you get
the chance to watch most of the section
and laugh at each other as we all make mistakes and it all gets out of shape –
that’s the nice thing about wearing a crash helmet you can’t hear the laughter.
As the sections passed things were running
smoothly for all apart from Simon who had
lost three cylinders and discovered that unless you put some fuel in they don’t run at
all... All of our times for each of the sections
were getting faster and faster as our confidence was growing, and us pushing as hard
as possible to find the quickest route. Unfortunately our new friend Chris had to pull out
with a broken shock absorber, not wanting to
cause any damage to his new motor, real
shame as he was obviously having fun. Section 4 at the top of the big bowl gave the option of two routes Mark soon discovered that the brakes on Andi’s car are not as effective as the front bumper digging
in!! Up it went and into a slow roll onto the roof... Nobody hurt and Andi being the
true Gent was far more concerned for Marks and his navigators welfare than for
his car shrugging it off with “ That’s motorsport “ the rest of this section and following carried on with little or no dramas thankfully !
“We'll thank you all for a great day!!! Despite the little problem I had.
Would like to thank a cracking cousin and friend Andi Skelley for letting
me use that wonderful comper. Thanks to everyone see you soon”mark c
