Help to entertain at the Scots Kirk
Pot luck lunches, Open Mics, fund-raising and social events are a welcome and
popular feature at the Scots Kirk. They add colour, fellowship, buzz and
enjoyment to the life of the congregation. We enjoy delicious and diverse foods,
surprisingly good wines, talented musicians and artists, and most importantly,
great company.
But who makes it all happen? To date we need to thank a very small band of
people – “The Usual Suspects” who organise diaries, publicise events, buy in
supplies, prepare food, lay out chairs and tables, set tables, serve drinks, dish
up food, clear tables, wipe down and stow furniture, stack dish-washers, scrub
pans, clean the kitchens, wash and iron table cloths, sort the re-cycling and take
out the bins over-flowing with the detritus of a good event.
As it is only fair that as many capable people as possible help with these tasks,
the Session has decided that each Potluck (always on the first Sunday of the
month) should be organised by a different team (see the rota below). This will
spread the load and encourage more people to lend a hand. However, there is
no need to wait to be asked to help – even if you are not a member of a team,
just get up and help or offer to take on a task in advance. And… if you’d like to
join a team, just let Ian or one of the Elders know!
As time-honoured Confucius says “many hands make light work”.

Pay attention at the back please!
The minister gave his Sunday morning service, as usual, but this
particular Sunday, it was considerably longer than normal. Later,
at the door, shaking hands with parishioners as they moved out,
one man said, "Your sermon, Pastor, was simply wonderful — so
invigorating and inspiring and refreshing."
The minister, of course, broke out in a big smile, only to hear the
man say, "Why I felt like a new man when I woke up!"
