Ommar Rivas, Sr. Learning & Developent Specilaist, comes to UCLA Health with over fourteen years of training and developing experience. He started his career with Marriott International in 2006. While working in Human Resources, he was asked to deliver New Hire Orientation. He fell in love with training and spent the next nine years as a facilitator, first in two hotels in Arizona and then for a cluster of eleven full-service hotels in the Southern California area delivering corporate programs.

Chava Caiyem Martinez, Training Specialist, has been with UCLA Health for four years. Her areas of expertise include professional development, leadership/communication skills training, facilitation, and design. Through her trainings, Chava invites all employees to appreciate the perspective of those we serve and provide these learners with practical tools that enable them to better manage the impact that their behaviors have on not only our patients’ experience of care, but to each other and the organization.

Vanessa Della Valle, Learning and Organizational Development Analyst, started her marketing career at Lectorum Publications, a subsidiary of Scholastic Inc., representing the children’s book distributor in the West coast at national educational conferences and helping schools create their new libraries of Spanish language and bilingual books. She worked for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center as a Coordinator in Volunteer Services. Vanessa holds a Master of Public Administration degree from California State University, Northridge.

Argelia Monroy, Learning and Development Operations Specialist, joined UCLA in 2004 and has been with CORE since 2008. Prior to joining CORE, Argelia was a Manager for the Teacher Education Program (M.Ed.) at UCLA’s Graduate School of Education & Information Studies, as well as Residency Program Coordinator for the Department of Pediatrics at the David Geffen School of Medicine. Before coming to UCLA, Argelia was an Operations Supervisor for Laureate International Universities Teacher Continuing Education Programs.

Jay Gomez, Training Specialist, spent 3 years in the Patient Communication Center training new hires on different types of subjects such as technical skills on CareConnect, effective communication through the phone, and CICARE. He moved to the ISS Training Department where he trained various employees (ie. outpatient physicians, clinical/non-clinical staff, and other types of providers). He received his Bachelor’s degree in Communications Studies from Cal State, Fullerton.
