Shockwave Therapy Study
Dear Colleagues ,
The Surgery and Rehabilitation Departments at Coral Springs Animal Hospital are conducting a study titled “ Effects of Shock Wave Therapy on Short Term Pain Control and Return to Function in Postoperative Cranial Cruciate Ligament Rupture ”
This is a double-blinded randomized study where patients will either receive a TPLO or TTA , and either shockwave therapy immediately postoperative or a sham treatment . We are currently enrolling patients until we reach 50 cases .
The inclusion criteria is :
1 . Patients that present for naturally occurring cranial cruciate ligament tear 2 . Surgical candidates for TPLO or TTA 3 Unilateral cranial cruciate ligament rupture 4 . Patients that have not received stifle injections of steroids .
We will be measuring preoperative and postoperative function scores including lameness scores , pain scores , goniometry , and pelvic limb weight distribution . Patients will be followed-up in the short-term postoperative period of 2 weeks , 4 weeks , and 8 weeks ( recheck radiographs ).
Clients will be responsible to pay for the surgery as usual , but there will be NO ADDITIONAL FEES associated with the shockwave treatment . There will only be ONE additional visit ( free of charge ) for the owner and they are required to fill out a brief survey regarding their pet ’ s quality of life at home . Once the client completes this survey , they will receive a $ 50 incentive for their time .
