NJCL
Recap
Mackenzie Sanford 1st Vice President
Salvete omnes ! As many of you know , about 60 VJCLers attended the National Junior Classical League convention this past summer , and we had a fantastic experience . For me , this was my 4th time going to Nationals , and I can confidently say that it is one of the best things I have ever done . You all know that I would highly recommend going to the convention in Miami ( Ohio ) next summer , but just in case you needed more convincing , here are some of the highlights from this past convention !
July 21st , 5:55 AM Most of us gathered at Flint Hill to get on the bus that would take us to Tennessee . A general flurry of excitement was present in the air as everyone loaded suitcases and art projects down below and began to board the bus . Personally , I was running around talking to everyone ( a testament to the JCL community !) as I hadn ’ t seen most people in a while .
One highlight of the ten-hour bus ride was playing Certamen with some kids from TJ and Yorktown . We didn ’ t have buzzers , so we were slapping anything we could find – our legs , the bus seats , our bags , etc . It reminded me of a quote from David Jackson , a former NJCL chair : “ Yes , playing Certamen socially is a thing .”
