It would be difficult to decide on the genre of Goynaar Baksho. Calling it a Horror Movie just because a ghost is one of the main characters wouldnt do justice to the movie. I would instead call it a Comedy (with certain aspects of a Thriller). It is a style of pure innocence where logic falls short in story-telling. Hence, the movie bypasses the scrutiny of loose ends in its storyline which I am happy to ignore as in the end it is an outright entertainer. The movie crosses three generations with perfection to the minutest details. The evolution of womanhood through these generations has been wonderfully put. From being just an 'ornament' in the house to taking up the task of running the financial cogs of a family and finally fuelling a rebellion of a nation- draws parallel evolutionary lines for both the "goyner baksho" in question and the women around it. Aparna Sen has sketched a life-like backdrop of Bengal along the storyline. Her perceptions about the people seemed quite convincing until the later part which shows the modern generation, here her own philosophies seemed to prevail over the innocence the story was meant to have.

Overall, it's sure a movie worth watching I would would give it 4 Reel Points out of 5.
