Withdrawal Method
Advantages
Disadvantages
The withdrawal method is a
natural family planning method
whereby the man withdraws his
penis at the point of ejaculation so
that sperm does not enter the
vagina.
It is hard to know the effectiveness of this method.
• The withdrawal method allows you to enjoy
sex without artificial contraceptives
• It's effectiveness is not known, but some
studies indicate that this method is up to 90%
effective when done properly.
• It might be a desirable option for couples in a
long term relationship who don't mind too much
if the method fails.
• The failure rate for the withdrawal method is 10-30%.
• Pre-ejaculatory fluids containing
sperm may still enter the vagina
• Sometimes withdrawal doesn't
happen in time
• It does not necessarily prevent
the spread of disease
• It can interrupt sex
