Natural Planning Method
Advantages
Disadvantages
The natural planning method is a
natural method of contraception
which does not involve the use of
any artificial hormones or barriers.
It is simply a method whereby sex
is scheduled not to occur just
before, during, or just after ovulation. This minimises the risk of
pregnancy. Some might combine
this with the withdrawal method
(the removal of the penis during
ejaculation).
• This method is suitable for people who have
ethical, cultural or religious reasons for not
wanting to use other forms of contraception.
• This method does not protect
against diseases
• This method is up to 99% effective if a
woman is certain that she is not currently or
about to ovulate. This can be tested through
looking at samples of cervical mucus or taking
ovulation tests.
• There's no need for artificial chemicals or
barriers. You can be natural.
• Due to mistakes, or a sudden
change in body rhythms, the
likelihood of getting pregnant is
vastly bigger than that of an
artificial method like the pill. Some
research suggests there's a 75%
chance of avoiding pregnancy
using this method due to the fact
that many women cannot read
their cervical mucus accurately.
• This method involves daily
charting and some self awareness, including self examination.
