The era of long-time charismatic Kurdish leaders comes to end.
The sons and other relatives will be successors of the former leaders in
party leadership.
Besides fulfilling national aspirations, the independence referendum
aimed to unify political parties and society around national agenda and
also temporarily postpone the solution of the internal problems. It was
also an attempt to raise the stakes and gain more privileges from
central government in Baghdad and the international community.
