Bylaws

Article V

Article V of the Bylaws contains various campaigning rules that ensure that elections for office are fair . This article has four sections on this matter , each covering different rules .

Section 1 . Campaigning

Section 1 specifies when campaigning starts .
Campaigning for NJCL office may not begin until after the Nominations Committee meeting ( NomCom ) ends . Campaigning before the end of NomCom is colloquially referred to as “ pre-campaigning ”, and it ’ s strictly prohibited to make sure that no candidate gets a headstart over another .
Note :
Pre-campaigning can be done by someone other than the candidate . A friend telling others outside your State that you ’ re thinking of running still counts as pre-campaigning and thus prohibited .
There is a slight exception to this rule . If your State has a procedure for picking a candidate to run nationally , you ’ re allowed to campaign within your State , according to your State ’ s guidelines , for that purpose . However , you still may NOT campaign to anyone outside your State before NomCom .

Section 2 . Campaigning Requirements

Section 2 covers required speeches and events for candidates .

Required Speeches

Δ A speech at NomCom , no longer than 2 minutes
Δ A speech at a General Assembly meeting , no longer than 3 minutes

Other Required Events

Δ Meet the Candidates , where JCLers talk to the candidates
Δ Candidates ’ Open Forum , where candidates answer questions
