Family and Co-Workers

If an entity such as a company, a person, a tree or even an ocean desires to be prosperous then it is of utmost importance that all of the minimum requirements and factors necessary in that entity's life for the full duration of time from growth to prosperity are met and maintained.

For example a plant will only yield fruit according to this truth. The same can be said of a human being. There are necessary minimum requirements and factors relevant to human survival.

In the early stage of our lives we rely entirely on at least one other being for all of our needs. I have yet to meet a living human who fed and clothed themselves alone from infancy. Without loved ones, food and shelter a baby would almost inevitably perish before ever reaching adolescence.

In other words for humans to survive

we help each other and reach out for help from each other out of necessity. Therefore I think it is natural to give help to others and to receive help from others. Most people experience joy when they give and also when they get.

Now, for an individual to share with another they must have something to share. To share food one must have food. To teach someone to be healthy one must be an example of health. So it is imperative to take care of oneself in order to be able to take care of others.

However, within the pursuit of self-awakening and self-reliance lies the danger of becoming overly selfish and we risk forgetting to share or even forgetting those who helped us before or those who help us now.

If we realize that the happiest possible existence for us on this planet is one where we take care of each other, protect life and cease all war, then what we also might realize is that the best goal of self-improvement ultimately is the cultivation of helpfulness.

Let us remember to say, "please", "excuse me" and "thank you" whenever we can. When we ask someone, "How are you doing?", let's listen to the whole answer.
