and communities displaced by climate disasters. No wonder then, the perception may loom— and not just for young people— that truly meaningful action for the individual has become elusive. Amidst all of this, a single, alert conversation says: You matter; I see you and I hear your voice.
One conversation at a time, we have the immense power to give this worth, this dignity, to each other.

Melanie Drane is a Los Angeles-based psychotherapist who works at USC Keck / LA General Medical Center, providing emotional support to physicians in training. She is also a faculty member at the Stanley King Institute for Deep Listening and maintains a private practice. Melanie served as poet-in-residence and instructor at her alma mater, Interlochen Arts Academy and lived for two decades in Europe and Japan.
