our feelings, reflect on how this impacts
all of us, and work toward using this crisis
as a way to strengthen our communities.
We can do this at home with loved-ones
and during virtual sessions with peers
and students. The current social distance
can even, for some, give enough physical
and emotional space to practice asking
the right questions and using appropri-
ate language and tone, from an envi-
ronment that feels safer to them, before
“game time” when we’re all back together
in-person.
Let’s continue to be comfortable with
the discomfort that is inherent in difficult
conversations. There’s certainly plenty of
fodder for these dialogues and, as our
contributors noted, there are real tangi-
ble skills and processes we can use along
the way. l
Robert Munro is director of Global Studies at Middlesex School and co-president of Board of
Directors at the Robbins House in Concord Massachusetts. He teaches courses in history and
