Professional development for our
Juilliard/NAE Drama collaboration
Earlier this month a group of NAE teachers gathered in New York for a week of PD to begin the Juilliard/NAE Drama collaboration for Wave One schools. The PD allowed us to collaborate as educators and artists as we participated in workshops, explored core works, and had the chance to discuss the significance of Drama not only as part of a curriculum, but also in the development of our students. The week was a wonderful opportunity to revitalize our creativity and experience an introduction to the Juilliard approach while connecting with fellow theatre teachers.
The Juilliard/NAE collaboration is a great step forward for Drama because of the tremendous amount of resources and support teachers will receive. The Juilliard Creative Classroom offers activities, resources, extensions, and supports for teaching and learning for all age groups based around diverse core categories and works; and all under the guidance of the talented and passionate Drama Curriculum Specialist Team. The Guest Artist and Curriculum Specialist visits to our school will be an exciting way to engage our students and expand their learning. In addition, we have the opportunity to connect with other Drama teachers from around the globe via NAU to brainstorm, share ideas, and celebrate accomplishments as we implement the program.
I am most looking forward to deepening and widening the scope of our Drama curriculum and using the Performing Arts Learner Profile as a tool for sharing with our greater community the impact of the collaboration as well as celebrating the growth of our students as a result of their experience with the program.
