China Culture Day at A.B. Combs Elementary School
On April 23rd, our CI was invited to give a presentation
on Chinese Martial Arts to more than 922 K-5 students
at A.B. Combs Magnet Elementary School. A.B. Combs
has international recognition and has been awarded the
National Magnet School of Excellence every year since
2008 and in 2013 it was named one of the top 5 magnet
school in the US. Before our presentation, Principal Muriel
Summers delivered a welcoming speech and showed
her appreciation and support to our CI’s Chinese afterschool program at A.B. Combs. The CI Directors gave a
brief introduction of CI and presented gifts to Liu Yao, the
Chinese teacher, to show our gratitude for her support
to the CI’s work. Starting from Kungfu Panda, which is
familiar to most US kids, Ms. Xiaowen Yang helped to
trace the history and development of Chinese martial arts,
introduced the famous sects of Chinese martial arts and
various world famous martial masters. During this lesson
she also introduced the morality of Chinese martial arts
- pursuit of peace and fraternity, helping the weak and
helpless and the benefits of practicing Chinese martial
arts. After the presentation our CI team put on a Taichi
performance. After their performance, Dr. Tang explained
and led students in practicing movements of Taichi. The
presentation ended with students from A.B. Comb’s
Martial Arts Club performing what they’d learned. Both
Principal Summers and Liu Yao extended their invitation
for more cooperation in the future and this partnership
will increase our collaboration in NC public schools.

AB寇姆小学是全美第一所领

4月初被评为2013年全美3400所磁石学校中最优秀的五所之一。

的学校强强联手，一定能更大限度地提升孔院的影响力。
讲座当天，
AB寇姆小学Muriel Summers校长首先致辞欢迎并对
孔院在该校的课外中文项目表示感谢和支持。孔院的中外方院长丁建
宁教授和林安娜女士分别对孔院进行了简要的介绍
，并向该校中文教
师刘瑶赠送礼物，
感谢她对该校孔院项目的支持。孔院教师杨晓雯从
孩子们耳熟能详的
《功夫熊猫》
入手，
梳理了中华武术的发展历史
，介
绍了知名的武术流派和具有国际影响力的武术大师，
重点强调了中华
武术之武德：友爱和平、除恶扬善、扶危济困以及习武强身健体的功
效。讲座中杨老师的细致讲解，辅以奥运会开幕式太极表演和中国小
学生的武术操视频，让孩子们对中华武术有了非常直观的了解，

和抢答环节则把讲座推向高潮。讲座之后，孔院教师唐晓忠、杨晓雯
和实习生郑雅欣为师生带来了精彩的太极拳表演 在场的观众还在唐

老师的讲解和示范下
，一招一式地演练起来。最后，该校的武术俱乐
部同学还做了精彩的武术表演。
孔院教师在这次活动中不仅展示了中华武术的魅力，他们的无
缝隙团队合作也为校方留下了深刻的印象。很多孩子在告别时，专门
向孔院院长和教师表示感谢。Muriel Summers 校长和中文教师都希望
今后能有更多的机会与孔院合
