Chinese New Year at Elon University
Elon University’s Chinese Department invited our CI to present
on Chinese culture and give a demonstration of Chinese traditional
arts. With melodious music playing, CI staffs performed Chinese fan
dance “the Beautiful Taihu Lake”. During the dance, our beautiful
staffs demonstrated various poses with silk fans which represent
the ancient elegant Chinese beauties. After the fan dance, CI staffs
arranged interactive activities for Elon’s teachers and students to
learn about Chinese culture while making fun crafts. Ms. Yang from
CI revealed the secrets behinds making a three-dimensional papercutting of the Chinese character “Spring”. After tracing, cutting, and
assembling, many were able to successfully create “Spring” without
much difficulties. Everyone was mesmerized by how exquisite the
paper-cuttings were. Three CI staffs demonstrated “Yang’s 24 moves
of Tai Chi”; their strong and graceful movements drew everyone’s
attention. After the event, Elon’s Director of International Affairs
expressed his sincere appreciation and welcomed CI to present
Chinese culture at their college in the future.

师的盛情邀请，北卡州大孔院丁建宁院长率全体中文老师
来到该校为一百多名师生介绍和展示了中国传统艺术和文
化。 孔院老师首先为师生们表演了民族舞蹈——扇子舞，
在舒缓悠扬的音乐声中，老师们手持大绸扇翩翩起舞，绸
扇在老师们的手中摆出各种造型，
尽显古老东方的优雅含
蓄之美。 在现场互动环节中
，老师们邀请数名师生上台自
己动手学剪” 字，
春” 师生们纷纷踊跃参加。循着孔院老师
们事先画好的脉络，按照老师的指导，
大家完成了裁剪。当
打开自己的作品时
，一个个形态各异的” 字跃然出现在
春”
眼前 意外和惊喜之余，

大家对中国剪纸艺术的神奇赞叹不
已 三位孔院老师还为大家表演了杨氏二十四式太极拳。

伴随轻柔的音乐，老师们舒展双臂，动作流畅，动中有静，
柔中带刚，行云流水般的表演给在场观众留下了深刻的印
象。 表演结束后，该校外事负责人盛赞了本次活动
，并欢
迎老师们将来再到该校展示中华传统艺术和文化。
