CI NEWS SPRING2014 0010 A CHINESE NEW YEAR VALENTINE On February 14th, the Chinese Lantern Festival coincided with the Western Valentine’s Day. Our CI combined these two festivals and hosted A Chinese New Year Valentine at NC State’s brickyard. Nearly 3,000 students joined our activities. Because it was the year of the Horse, we invited a very special guest—NC State’s mounted police to be part our event. Enthusiastic students took pictures with the mounted police and listened to CI staff’s explanations about the year of the Horse. Another popular component of our event was our beloved mascot Bao-Bao; almost everyone who saw Bao-Bao wanted to have their pictures taken with him. 2014年2月14日中国元宵佳节， “撞上” 西方情人节。北卡州大孔院利用这一极佳时机，举办了中国元宵节暨情人节大型庆祝活动。活动当天风和日丽，孔院在州大主校区最热闹、每天来往人流达数千人次的Brickyard进行了一次别具一格的文化展示。由于今年是马年，孔院特地邀请了学校的骑警前来助阵，很多学生纷纷驻足和马留影。孔院的老师们向学生们介绍今年是马年，并祝他们马到成功。北卡州大孔院的吉祥物熊猫 “抱抱” 也赚足了眼球，学生们争相和 “ 抱抱” 拥抱合影。 At this large event, CI prepared three stations: Chinese calligraphy, Valentine’s card DIY, and Chinese cultural gift. At the calligraphy station, students traced different Chinese characters such as “Love”, “Destiny” and “Together Forever”. Many were also fortunate enough to receive a small paper lantern with Chinese calligraphy. At the Chinese Valentine’s card station, CI prepared various card making materials such as stickers, red strings, markers, and colored-paper to ensure that everyone can design and construct a special Chinese Valentine’s card. After participating in these interesting activities, they also received a unique Chinese gift such as Chinese knot, lucky bags, bookmarks, embroidered coasters, and Peking Opera bottle openers. Students were also excited to try on Chinese Imperial Emperor or Empress’s robes. This three-hour event had a profound influence in promoting Chinese culture. 本次活动主要有三大板块。第一板块为书法。学生们可以临摹 “爱” “缘分” “白头偕老” 、和三个与情人节有关的词；同时，孔院的老师们施展书法才艺在小灯笼上留字送给学生们。为了得到写有书法的灯笼，学生们不惜排三米长队等候。第二板块为制作情人节卡片。孔院准备了红色的小窗花、贴纸、卡纸、红线、彩笔等材料供大家为自己喜欢的人亲手制作一张有中国元素的情人节卡片。第三板块为传统工艺品展示及赠送。参与活动的师生都可以获得一份具有中国特色的礼物，包括印有京剧脸谱的开瓶器、吊坠、红色喜糖盒、小福袋、刺绣包、书签、绣花杯垫等。整个活
