The 5th annual National Chinese Language Conference( NCLC) was held on April 12- 14, 2012, in Washington, DC. Dr Jianning Ding as the representative of CI at NCSU attended the conference. In the afternoon of April 14, all the CI directors in North America gathered together and discussed |
on issues about making development plan for CIs, quality and evaluation of CIs and development of CCs. It was a good opportunity for the CI directors to exchange their experiences and ideas.

On May 5, CI held the 3rd Annual North Carolina Chinese Speech Contest Final on NC State Campus, marking a successful conclusion to this year’ s Chinese Speech Contest.
Since February, a total of 96 students( which doubled the 2010 and 2011 numbers) across NC competed for the Speech Contest. After reviewing all applicants’ selfintroduction videos, judged carefully selected 21 finalists to compete at the final contest. Ten year-old Milan Carter, an enthusiastic little girl from My Chinese TreeHouse, received the highest award— Outstanding Prize. Milan has studied Chinese for six years. During the final contest, Milan told a story about Confucius, and explained Confucius’ famous saying,“ As three men are walking together, one of them is bound to be good enough to act as my teacher.” For talent showcase, Milan performed a brilliant dance which perfectly mixed ballet with traditional Chinese dance.
Overall, the 2012 Chinese Language Competition received very positive feedbacks from local Chinese teachers, students and their parents. CI will further communicate and cooperate with local communities and work with education organizations to host more

activities like the Chinese Language Competition.
The 2012 Chinese Language Competition has been promoted and supported by news media all over NC, such as News14 Carolina, Charlotte observer, The China Star newspaper, etc. North Carolina’ s Governor Perdue proclaimed May 5, 2012, as the“ Chinese Culture and Language Appreciation Day” in North Carolina, which encourages NC citizens to learn more about China and Chinese language and culture.

落下了帷幕 。
这 次演讲比 赛要求参 赛选手 以
“ 中国” 或“ 孔子” 为主题, 谈
一 谈他们对 中国或者 孔子的 理
解 。 比赛分为预赛和决赛两轮,
预赛共有 95 名选手报名参加, 参
赛人数约为之前两届演讲竞赛的
两倍 。 经过评委们的仔细筛选,
21 名选手入围决赛 。 决赛场上,
选手们在主题演讲 、 问题回答 、
才 艺展示三 个环节展 开激烈 角
逐 。 在主题演讲过程中, 选手们
表现出了对中国文化的浓厚兴趣
和极大热情; 在才艺展示中, 选
手们载歌载舞, 诗书琴画信手拈
来; 在问题回答环节, 选手们的
机智对答更是引来在场评委和观

众的阵阵喝彩 。
最后, 比赛的特等奖得主是来自 My Chinese Tree House 年仅十岁的 小女孩 Milan Carter 。 她坚持学习 中文已有六年时间 。 在 Waddell Language Academy 学校, 小 Milan 不仅学习中文, 还用中文学习别 的学科 。 小 Milan 很喜欢这种学习 方法, 对中国的语言和文化很着 迷 。 报名参赛的时候, 小 Milan 只 是抱着锻炼一下口语的想法, 展 示 一下几年 的学习成 果 。 决 赛 时, Milan 讲述了有关孔子的故 事, 表达了自己对孔子的名言,“ 三人行, 必有我师焉 。" 的理 解 。 小 Milan 发音标准清晰, 用词 准 确, 语速 流利 。 才 艺展示 阶 段, 她融入中国舞蹈元素的芭蕾 舞更是博得了满场的掌声 。
此次中文写作和演讲比赛赢得了 北卡地区师生家长的一致好评 。 他们表示希望北卡州大孔子学院 今后能和当地各层次的办学机构 以及社区开展更密切的合作, 继 续大力开展此类活动 。
值得一提的是, 北卡州州长 Perdue 将演讲决赛的日子, 2012 年 5 月 5 日定为全州的“ 中国语言文 化日”, 鼓励更多的北卡州民众 学习汉语, 了解欣赏中国文化 。 2012 中文竞赛还得到了北卡地区 各大媒体( 华新报, News 14 Carolina, Charlotte Observe 等) 的 大力支持和广泛关注 。
