Presentation to State Board of Education
The NC State Board of Education established a Task Force on Global Education. The purpose of the Task Force was to study the current trends of international education in the K-12 public schools and determine next steps for the success of students.
Task Force members asked the Confucius Institute to share the vision and mission of the Institute and to talk about our education programs. On March 14, 2012, CI
spoke to 10 members of the State Board of Education to inform them of our programs and to provide advice and suggestions on how to improve and strengthen Chinese language programs in the State. This fall, the members will produce a paper on what they learned and how it will benefit the NC.

UNC Board of Governors Trip to Hanban
On the warm spring day of March 25, 2012, the 15- member UNC Board of Governors delegation visited the Hanban / Confucius Institute Headquarters in Beijing, China. With the banner“ Welcome President Thomas Ross and Board of Governors from the University of North Carolina, USA” displaying at the headquarters ' hall entrance, guests felt a deep sense of warmth.
Madame Xu Lin, Director- General of Hanban, held a cordial meeting with the delegation and recalled the fruitful cooperation in recent years between Hanban and the North Carolina education community. She is delighted that the UNC Board Members can visit Hanban.
During the meeting, Thomas Ross, the President of the University of North Carolina System, expressed sincere appreciation for the warm reception put forth to welcome the delegation. President Ross briefly introduced the University of North Carolina system and spoke highly of the achievements and impact that CI and Center for International Understanding( CIU) had on local education, culture, and other areas. President Ross said the University of North Carolina system will continue to support Hanban’ s ongoing projects, and is looking forward to further strengthening its cooperation with Hanban. Schools within the UNC system will continue to promote Chinese language and culture teachings and exchanges.

会谈期间, 代表团团长北卡罗莱 纳大学总校校长 Thomas Ross 先生 向许琳主任及国家汉办热情周到 的接待表示衷心感谢, 并简要介 绍了北卡罗莱纳大学, 高度评价 了北卡州大孔子学院和北卡罗莱 纳大学国际理解中心孔子课堂在 当地教育 、 文化交流等方面的重 要作用和取得的成绩 。 他表示将 继续支持汉办已有项目的开展, 并期待进一步加强与国家汉办的 合作, 在大学系统内各校推广汉 语语言文化教学 。
