MAKING SUSTAINABILITY WORK
Conference News has partnered with Manchester Central to bring you the Shaping a Sustainable Future whitepaper
ustainability is a defining factor in any events strategy . Suppliers and organisers not looking at sustainability today , may find the competition taking leaps forward tomorrow . But little data and guidance exists on how to make events more sustainable across the supply chain .
That ’ s why Conference News and Manchester Central have partnered up to create the Shaping a Sustainable Future whitepaper . The research piece takes data collected from a survey completed by 150 respondents , social media polls , a roundtable with key event planners and the Manchester Central team , then combines it with thought leadership from sustainability experts .
The aim of the whitepaper is to provide actionable insights to push forward the sustainability agenda and ensure that the events industry has a blueprint for sustainable success .
What did we discover ?
The stats from our report make for interesting reading , on the one hand , there is an overwhelming acceptance that sustainability is here to stay , but sentiment appears to be that the industry could be doing more to go green .
Of our respondents , 97 % said sustainability has become more important to them and 94 % said they expect sustainability to become a bigger part of their future decision making . This shows a clear awareness of the importance of sustainability in events businesses , but where is the industry today ?
It makes for mixed reading , with 41 % saying the industry is not doing enough to be sustainable . Sustainability is a
journey after all , the desire is there – but there are several key roadblocks . Our respondents cited cost , lack of clarity on which path to take and concerns around greenwashing as the most significant blockers to real progress . Moving from the industry at large , we also asked our respondents about their own organisations . Only 32 % believe their organisation is sustainable www . conference-news . co . uk
