here are precisely three numbers that you need to worry about right now . 1.5 , 48 and 2022 . The World Meteorological Organisation
( WMO ) reported that there ’ s a 48 % chance that global average temperatures will exceed the 1.5 degree increase threshold set out by the Paris Climate Agreement , this year , 2022 .
1.5 degrees , seems like a little , right ? Nice summer for us here in Blighty I guess . But across the globe the ramifications will be felt for years to come . That ’ s why the events industry is so important as agents for change . By utilising new practices and being agile , we can improve the sustainable fortunes of our sector .
But sustainability is not just about the planet , it ’ s also about the people and communities that we serve . By innovating and altering the way we work , we can spearhead the way into a new era for events , one in which the planet and its people are paramount .
In this issue , we show tangible ways businesses are making a difference to eventprofs and the environment – from experts steeped in a variety of points in the value chain , from both the virtual and physical , to customer-facing and back-of-house production .
There are a thousand different ways to change business practices to be more planet and people-conscious , from B Corp certification and travelling more sustainably , to tracking our carbon footprint and changing the format of our events .
