45 Feature research about the seven sectors . The hub is the first step on a long road . It will serve as a repository for content and information about the industry , but it will be supported by research and an app .
Stainton said : “ The objectives are to develop the hub , work in partnership with universities , for research , and provide a one stop showcase that fully maps out the expertise and networks focusing on CSR , DEI , and wellbeing progression . Then the second phase in the autumn will be launching the hub and the app .”
The need comes from the lack of data in the industry . Hughes talks about this issue , saying : “ One of the problems , of course , is we don ’ t know what the right numbers are , which is the whole purpose of The Power of Events getting the real numbers out there .
“ That ’ s why we haven ’ t announced the number of people employed or what the GDP is at this time , because , right now , nobody really knows what those numbers are .”
In our conversation , Stainton was keen to highlight what The Power of
Events is not , that being an association , DMO , media platform or supporting organisation . He talked at length about being a digital shop window for the UK events industry and recognised the existing frameworks that The Power of Events aims to support .
Outreach
It ’ s been an auspicious start for The Power of Events , reaching over 80 % of its £ 100k start-up fund at the time of writing . It ’ s currently showcasing its credentials and goals on a splash page and is putting together various action groups for trends across the industry .
I spoke to Stainton about the goals of the brand , spoke about being transparent about the development of the project and getting feedback from industry players . He said : “ We have always felt that we had to be impactful , clear and content-led , mapping out and signposting the UK events industry in an inclusive way across the seven core sectors .” Stainton continued :
“ We ’ ve got the cross seven sector engagement that no one else has , that ’ s the essence of our success , which we nurtured and evolved and made up as we went along through One Industry One Voice .”
During my conversation with the two directors , the pair were keen to stress the importance of the industry coming together around The Power of Events . As both its investor base and the community in which it seeks to serve , eventprofs are , and will be , the lifeblood of The Power of Events .
